Psalm 121 ( near the middle of The Holy Bible– NIV )

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—

   where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,

   the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip-

   he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel

   will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you-

   the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,

   nor the moon by night.

7  The LORD will keep you from all harm-

    he will watch over your life;

8  the LORD will watch over your coming and going

    both now and forevermore.

What assurance we can receive from this passage of scripture! As I read this this morning I gain new hope for the day and receive strength. God is good!

When in the throes of depression we can feel absolutely useless and/or helpless. It is reassuring to know that God is our helper, provider and comforter.

May God bless us today with full awareness of His loving kindness. In Jesus’ name, amen

Strength

Psalm 18
1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.

2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.

Good morning,

The past while has been a struggle but it has been worth it as with this struggling, the passing time has made me wonder about where I believe my strength comes from. Certainly I believe the only answer is as the above scripture states, my strength comes from God. I have been battling illness, worry and a sense of defeat.

While I am fatigued my energy goes to reading about God and searching for His consolation for me in times of distress. I have found a wonderful website with free Christian books that contain letters, sermons and more. Reading through letters and a sermon really helped me through the night last night. I thank God for His constant guiding and reassurance. The website can be found here: Christian Classics

If you are in need of strength I encourage you to read God’s word found in The Bible. I pray that you are blessed as you read this and that you are able to visit the above mentioned website for encouragement. May God give you strength today, in Jesus’ name, amen.

God loves us despite our shortcomings

Good morning!

This morning I viewed Billy Graham’s latest telecast and it was beautiful. Even though I have heard the message of the cross presented in different ways and each beneficial, this latest broadcast presented Jesus in a way that made me feel as though this was the first time I have heard it.

The people who shared their personal struggles with sin and rebellion were very honest. I admire them for their honesty. This viewing this morning has helped me to recognize that even though I still make mistakes and can see that I fall quite short of God’s high standards, my hope lies in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ loves us despite our shortcomings. I recently read that to become competent at a new skill takes time. I needed to be reminded of this even though it seems like simple common sense because sometimes in my enthusiasm and past success in learning new skills, I sometimes expect to be able to learn new skills quickly and proficiently. Learning to follow God’s ways is difficult and sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel because either the teachings convict me of sin or show me where I don’t measure up. It is important to remember that God still leads despite our shortcomings.

The people included in the passages of the Bible are portrayed with their great faith and also their sins. Reflected and important to understand is God’s forgiveness and love. Numerous times have I said to myself that I can’t do this. I have realized that it is not expected of me to be able to instantly measure up to God’s standards. My part is to be willing to follow and obey God’s leading. He will correct me when I am wrong. He will also show me the way that is right.

I encourage you to watch Billy Graham’s broadcast as it was so wonderfully made.

May God bless us with encouragement, strength and wisdom today, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Do you know what your calling is?

Good morning! It is looking sunny and lovely today! A man is cheerfully whistling outside my window as others are bustling about. As I prepare my plans for the day, should I do this or that, I must make sure to put things in order of priority. Lately I have been reading quite a bit about prophecy and of the prophets mentioned in the bible. I don’t know my future, but I know I want to be following God’s will daily! I don’t have to guess, I need to read. Thank God that He provides the way! In my own wisdom, I want to keep busy, but busy doesn’t mean productive. Sometimes in my enthusiasm I can be apt to rush the process of a set plan to achieve the final result. I have to slow down and realize that not everything is going to happen in the timeframe that I have planned for. Being flexible is important and I shouldn’t become so focused on one thing so that other important tasks are ignored.

Thankfully, God is ready to help us sort through our priorities. If we aren’t careful we can wind up trying to please others and not following God’s plan for us. Being overwhelmed requires that I take the time to think and rest to not over burden myself with stresses that are unnecessary.

This morning’s encouragement comes from 2 Peter in The Holy Bible, located near the back. Simon Peter inspired by God teaches about making one’s calling sure. God wants us to be fruitful and productive. It wouldn’t make sense for me to try to whistle as I cannot do so, so I shouldn’t try to do as others do because God has different tasks for each of us to accomplish for Him. Do you know what your calling is? Are you unsure? God is a great teacher and we do well to seek Him daily!

2 Peter 1 NIV ( New International Version )

1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;

6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 But if anyone does not have them, he is near-sighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.

10 Therefore my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,

11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

A few lines later, Simon Peter talks about prophecy that is lovely and informs us that prophecy in the scriptures is from God!

19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation.

21 For prophecy never had it’s origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

We can trust that the Bible is the true word of God that we have the privilege of being able to turn to for success, comfort , guidance, knowledge, and communication from God! Some have described God’s word as a love letter. What do you think?

🙏

Dear Father, thank you for this lovely morning and the ability to share your word with others. May you continue to woo us with your lovingkindness today. Our hearts go out to those who are being persecuted for their faith in you. May you strengthen and give courage and encouragement to those who are in distress and are downtrodden. May you save the oppressed and those suffering from injustice around the world. May your justice and righteousness turn mourning into dancing. Please enable us to fulfill Your will for us today, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Love in the morning, and faithfulness at night.

Good morning! I hope all is well with you. I would like to start this post by sharing   with you a little bit about my pets. My dogs and cat act as my alarm clock. When I was younger it was so difficult to wake me that an alarm with an actual bell needed to be used.  My two dogs and cat are fairly routine. It amazes me that throughout the day they somehow know that it is time to eat, time to go for a walk, time to sleep and time to play. Generally around six o’clock am the dogs whine for me to get them outside, or my cat meows for her breakfast.

Do you go through life with an alarm ringing that you either ignore, is faint like when you are just waking and hearing an alarm, or do you respond right away? Well, if you are a Christian you can probably recognize where I am going with this. The Holy Spirit prompts us gently as to what is right and what is wrong. If we head for the wrong decision, we are given a warning that it is wrong. It takes practice and wisdom from God to discern this prompting from The Holy Spirit. Are you not a Christian, but feel you are being directed to anything to do with Christ? God may be attempting to get your attention!

I felt led by The Holy Spirit to start writing these blogs, not entirely sure why I would want to do this publicly. My most intense periods of refreshing, encouragement and strength come from my morning and evening readings of The Holy Bible. Last night after finishing my post on my blog, As I Learn By The Day, I was led to scripture that talks about praising God morning and night. I have concluded that this is the reason I have been led to write morning and evening devotionals. The scripture is from the book of Psalms, near the middle of The Holy Bible.

🎶

Psalm 92 NIV ( New International Version- The Holy Bible)

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.

1  It is good to praise the LORD

and make music to your name, O Most High,

2  to proclaim your love in the morning

and your faithfulness at night,

3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre

and the melody of the harp.

4  For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD;

I sing for joy at the work of your hands.

5  How great are your works, O LORD,

how profound your thoughts!

6  The senseless man does not know,

fools do not understand,

7  that though the wicked spring up like grass

and all evildoers flourish,

they will be forever destroyed.

8  But you, O LORD, are exalted forever.

9  For surely your enemies, O LORD,

surely your enemies will perish;

all evildoers will be scattered.

10  You have exalted my horn ( symbolizing strength ) like that of a wild ox;

fine oils have been poured upon me.

11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;

my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.

12  The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,

they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;

13  planted in the house of the LORD,

they will flourish in the courts of our God.

14  They will still bear fruit in old age,

they will stay fresh and green,

15  proclaiming, ” The LORD is upright;

he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

🙏

Dear Father, thank you for this morning. May you bless and guide us to do right today. May you strengthen and give us joy today, even in the midst of difficult. Please ease our fears and anxieties as we learn to trust in you increasingly day by day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Don’t worry!

Good morning! What do you do when you don’t know what to do? What is the best thing to do when you are unsure? We can trust and pray that God will help us and provide for us the answers we are looking for. We have to be careful though because His ways are higher than our ways. We may not receive the answer or guidance we expect or the solution may come at a different time than we had hoped for. God is all knowing, and He doesn’t make mistakes. Can you trust God with all of your worries and concerns today, big or small? Look at the ducks in the above photo. God provides for them, they are not stressed and anxious for their well being. We benefit from being still and realizing He is God.

This morning I would like to share with you short scripture as to what it is like to trust fully in God. This will be shared from the book of Psalm in The Holy Bible, near the middle. It is from a king devoted to God, King David.

Psalm 131 NKJV ( New King James Version )

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

1  LORD, my heart is not haughty,

nor my eyes lofty.

Neither do I concern myself with great matters,

Nor with things too profound for me.

2  Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,

Like a weaned child with his mother;

Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3  O Israel, hope in the LORD

From this time forth and forever.

🙏

Dear Father, thank you that we can pray to you for answers we don’t have. May you enable us to do your will. Thank you for relieving stress and burdens as we learn to let you take care of us. Thank you for your kindness and the strength given to us so that we may overcome hardships that cause worry, fear and  anxiety. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Joy!

Good morning! Did you know that it is possible to have joy even when facing complications and trials? Each and every time I pray to God or search for guidance in a troubling situation I eventually receive peace, and joy. He hears our prayers and our cries.

Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, keeps careful watch over us, like a shepherd tending sheep. He has chosen us, perhaps you have started to realize today that He has chosen you! God does not look at people as being valuable and acceptable based on the world’s typical standards. Physical strength, intelligence, education levels, wealth, status, appearance and the like are not measured and favoured with God. God knows our imperfections and loves us regardless. If some of these imperfections are causing us to sin, God will lead us out of those sins, through discipline, warnings, and helpful encouragement. We don’t need to measure up before we go to God in prayer. We don’t have to try to impress Him to gain His love and acceptance. God prefers mercy over judgement. He would rather bless us than judge us. Does this mean we should take advantage of His lovingkindness and see how much we can get away with? No, most certainly not. Some troubles we have, like an addiction, may take several attempts to overcome, but God is with us each and every step of the way. Just like a baby learning to walk, it is awkward sometimes to change and learn new skills. God is our helper and provider of everything good. He doesn’t just give up on us like sometimes we might want to give up on ourselves after repeated attempts at success in a particular endeavour.

When we have failed ourselves or others, God’s love remains constant. Joy is one of the blessings he bestows on us, even when we don’t measure up! This is good news. Certainly frustration, anger and  bewilderment can follow attempts at changing and improving areas in our lives that need to be bettered. You can have joy this morning. Let’s look at scripture to learn of the joy that can come from reading and believing His word, The Holy Bible , regardless of how many or whatever may oppose us!

Psalm 5 NKJV ( New King James Version- near the middle)

1  Give ear to my words, O LORD,

Consider my meditation.

2  Give heed to the voice of my cry,

My King and my God,

For to You I will pray.

3  My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;

In the morning I will direct it to You,

And I will look up.

4  For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,

Nor shall evil dwell with You.

5  The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;

You hate all workers of iniquity.

6  You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;

The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

7  But as for me, I will come into Your house

in the multitude of Your mercy;

In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.

8  Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness;

Make Your way straight before my face.

9  For their is no faithfulness in their mouth;

Their inward part is destruction;

Their throat is an open tomb;

They flatter with their tongue.

10  Pronounce them guilty, O God!

Let them fall by their own counsels;

Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,

For they have rebelled against You.

11 But let all those  rejoice  who put their trust in You;

Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

Let those also who love Your name

Be joyful in You.

12  For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;

With favour You will surround him as with a shield.

🌸

Dear Father, if we have joy this morning, may you increase it. If we are lacking joy may you give us a taste of it and increase it daily with added measure. Most importantly, help us realize that true joy comes from You. Please help us to  constantly reach for You, like a flower reaches for the sunlight. May today be for us, a day of joy and relief, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Look at the birds of the air!

Matthew 6:25-34 The Holy Bible ( near the back )

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. …

Good morning! Look at these ducks resting! I appreciated that I could get so close to them without them heading quickly towards the water.

Can you spot the red cardinal? I was fortunate to see not one, but two male cardinals in this small area. I could not believe how calm all of the animals were yesterday!

Psalm 5: 11-12  The Holy Bible ( near the middle )

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;

Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

Let those also who love Your name

Be joyful in You.

For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;

With favour You will surround him as with a shield.

May God our Father bless us with abundant provision today,whether it be friendship, clothing, food, love, peace, and His lovingkindness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Safety.

Image

Good morning! I hope you are enjoying your morning so far. Did you sleep well or not at all? Our God sustains us as we sleep. If you cannot sleep ask God for His help. I remember being woken at all times of the night and wanting to read God’s word. I didn’t understand it was maybe God’s prompting to do so, but it became a habit for a while. I was offered guidance and knowledge even though the hours were strange. From the book of Psalm we are told of God’s sustenance of us while we are unaware. We can be fully awake and not be fully aware of God’s provision and care for us! I hope today you will find ways that He cares for you.

Psalm 3:5-6The Holy Bible ( near the middle )

I lay down and slept;

I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.

I will not be afraid of the ten thousands of people

Who have set themselves against me all around.

Imagine tens thousands of people being against you. It might not be that difficult if you are surrounded by conflict and there seems to be no escape. God gives us strength and the book of Psalm also tells of safety for the faithful.

Psalm 4

To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!

You have relieved me in my distress;

Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

How long, O you sons of men,

Will you turn my glory to shame?

How long will you love worthlessness

And seek falsehood?

But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly;

The LORD will hear when I call to Him.

Be angry, and so not sin.

Meditate within your heart on your bed,

and be still,                                       Selah

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,

And put your trust in the LORD.

There are many who say,

“Who will show us any good?”

LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

You have put gladness in my heart,

More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;

For you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

🐝

We gain great confidence day by day the more we read His word guided by The Holy Spirit!

May God grant you peace as you go about your day. Lift up your troubles to God! He is our sustenance! Please keep those who are persecuted in your prayers: I pray for you God to provide guidance and protection those around the world who are being persecuted. May many be saved because of their belief in you. May you give us wisdom today and lead us along safe paths. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Be still.

Image

Psalm 46:10 The Holy Bible (near the middle)

Be still, and know that I am God;

This morning has been one of concern for a loved one and lies from another. What to do when someone is trying to manipulate and place fear in your life?

Trust in God! I am concerned now for those suffering persecution in Egypt, Syria and North Africa.

Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible NKJV

God the Refuge of His People and Conqueror of the Nations

Psalm 46: 1-5

God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried

into the midst of the sea;

Though its waters roar

and be troubled,

Though the mountains shake with its swelling.               Selah

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,

The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;

God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

I have been told lately of God coming through “just in time”, this is what I think when I read the last line above. ” God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.” We are told by Jesus to not be like this world. God is our provider and our strength. Some of us are waiting for God to help us, just at the break of dawn. I believe when things are “just in time” a number of things happen. We see God knows best, we see His miraculous power, our trust and faith grows stronger, and we learn how to depend on Him.

I pray today as you are reading this you are blessed and may God grant you from His word, a sense of peace and calmness. A sense of being still and attuned to His presence. May God provide relief for our brothers and sisters in turmoil whether personal or collective. In Jesus’ name, amen
